"You weaklings who unquestioningly believe themselves to be good... Who cling to foolish words like "justice" and "hope"... Soon, I will show you the truth. That those who stand above all are those who decide what is right. Soon, I will use the Onyx Book to remake this very world!"
Kane to Galena about the Jump Force Heroes
Kane (カイン Kain) also known as Cain[1], is the is the central antagonist of Jump Force. He and Galena function as a duo with Director Glover as their leader, and all work together to oversee the Venoms.
Appearance
Kane is a tall, muscular bald man with blue skin and purple eyes and has red markings on his scalp and around his eyes, due to being corrupted by an Umbras Cube. He wears a black suit with gold armor pieces over his body, with his most notable feature being the insect-like shell pieces hanging from the back of his chest armor. He also wears olive green military-esque gloves and boots.
Personality
Kane's speech to the Player and to the Jump Force Heroes reflects his belief that those in power determine what "truth" is, and that ideals such as justice are meaningless without strength to back them up and framing himself as a revolutionary who seeks to destroy the existing order and create a new world.
"The world is broken... and it's up to me to fix it. I will save this world, even if it means tearing it down to its foundation."
Kane in Jump Force trailers and V-Jump
His quote in trailers and V-Jump reveals Kane's self-righteous belief that the world is beyond repair in its current state, painting him as some sort of messianic figure who wishes to save the world by destroying and rebuilding it from its ashes.
His view of "saving" the world involves destroying everything first and starting over, positioning himself as a figure who will bring about this radical change. He perceives his actions as justified for the greater good, despite the harm they cause, as he sees destruction as necessary for salvation.
Role in Story
Kane makes his first appearance alongside Galena. They're discussing their plans of Global Domination. Galena tells him Jump Force won't be a problem, as the Venoms' numbers are growing rapidly. Kane believes that the world is contemptible and requires change. He says he will be the one to change it.
serves as the primary antagonist of Jump Force for most of its story mode. He was corrupted by an Umbras Cube by Galena and serves as the leader of a group of villains called the Venoms who are the Jump Force's main adversaries in the story.
"Kane used to be human. And just like you all, he was a dull and tired man who used his power for what he thought was justice. But the justice he believed in betrayed him, and killed his beloved wife and daughter... That which he believed to be just, drove those he loved to their deaths... It was the finest despair I've ever seen!"
Many years before the events of Jump Force, Kane was an ordinary human, he was married and had a daughter, however his family died due to what he believed to be just. Because of this he no longer believed in heroes or justice and started believing that strength is everything. He became corrupted, wanting to destroy the current and make a new world, because of this he started working with Director Glover and Galena, and getting further corrupted by an Umbras Cube, that changed his appearance, and gaining the ability to manipulate the Umbras Cubes at will.
"Heroes are supposed to save the world in the name of justice... In that case, I'll destroy that world, and create a new one... A world that refuses justice, where power dominates all! That's right... That is how this world should be! But with my power, I can remake it."
Driven by a messianic complex, during the game Kane believes the world is irreparably broken and must be destroyed to be reborn. At the start of the game Kane and Galena discuss their plan to create a large enough Venom army to destroy the real world. Throughout the story Kane utilizes the dark powers of the Umbras Cubes to manipulate and corrupt other characters, turning them into Venoms to further his plans. His ultimate goal is to remake the world in his vision, dismissing conventional notions of justice and hope as foolish.
"This world no longer has any meaning for me. Ever since I lost everything for believing in something as foolish as justice, so too did the world lose all sense of meaning... Remaking it is unlikely to change that... Yes... I want to break things... I want to utterly destroy this contemptible world!"
Kane to the Jump Force Heroes before his defeat
Right after his final fight, and defeat, against the Jump Force, Director Glover appears and takes the Onyx Book, he then tells Kane that his role is no longer needed, revealing that Kane was working for Director Glover, he then reveals himself as Prometheus. Kane tries punching Prometheus but is stopped by Galena, who kicks him away before blasting him. Revealing that Kane was a puppet for the pair all along. This betrayal does lead to Kane's downfall and his status is unknown until he finally reappears during the climax against Prometheus, with the assistance of Light Yagami, where he rips his own Umbras Cube from his torso and forcefully gives it to the Player, and he tells Prometheus that humans are not to be underestimated, before collapsing.
"I know...you can do this... After all... You never stopped believing...in yourself..."
Kane to the Player after giving them his Umbras Cube
After his collapsing during the climax of the story it is somewhat ambiguous whether he actually died or simply disappeared after the confrontation.
Power
"Those who lack power don't deserve to live."
Kane to the Player after recognizing the other Jump Force members as true heroes
It is unknown how strong Kane was as a human, but it is known that he used his power for what he thought was justice. After his corruption he is powerful enough to easily defeat the Jump Force Heroes for most of the game, and even stand his ground against the Player, Goku, Piccolo, Luffy and Naruto all together, in his last fight.
It's worth noting that both Goku and Vegeta are both able to use their Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan transformation in the game, meaning that they're at the very least based on their Golden Frieza story arc counterparts, but never used them in story mode, using only their basic Super Saiyan transformation. Even then, this still goes to show how powerful Kane is.
